Got Muscle Tension? I Found Your New Bestie

There’s nothing like a relaxing massage to help sooth muscle tension. Being an advocate for self-care, I’m all for regular massages.

Massage atmosphere

Wouldn’t it be great to have a personal masseuse at your beck and call every day? For most of us the cost of professional massages makes them more of a special occasion versus routine. But they are wonderful little slices of heaven.

If I told you there’s an electronic massager that’s easy to use and costs way less than a one-hour massage, would you be interested? I thought so. Read on,  because I found something that’s really “amazing” and it’s going to be your new bestie!

Home Remedy For Muscle Tension

Let me introduce you to the Shiatsu Back Neck and Shoulder Massager. It’s a fairly small, portable electronic massager that does an incredible job at massaging. It easily works on hard-to-reach areas, and it’s effortless to use.

This massager is a good tool for everyone to have in their home. Use it:

  • To relieve troublesome muscle tightness
  • For self-care just because it feels great

Why I like the Shiatsu Neck & Back Massager

Are you like me and carry stress in your neck or shoulders? The Shiatsu Massager works perfectly to help relieve that tension. I tend to get tension headaches and I believe this massager will help loosen those muscles before it manifests into a headache.

I also have plantar fasciitis which causes horrible pain in my feet. The pain stems from leg muscles in the calves. The Shiatsu Massager does a great job at massaging those calf muscles and I’m confident will help my foot pain.

On occasion I have lower back pain. Although I currently don’t have lower back pain, the massager still feels amazing on my lower back!

Do you get migraines? I do, but haven’t yet had the opportunity to see if the Shiatsu Massager helps make the migraine go away. However, a friend told me that she has a similar product and it definitely helps her migraines. (Also, she intends to buy the cordless Shiatsu Massager because her model requires an electrical plug-in.)

Home Massager Features

For the nitty gritty details, you can read the product description on the Amazon product page.  The following are a few details that I found particularly useful.

Intensity

It’s really easy to adjust the amount of pressure, so you can have a light massage or a deep tissue massage. The first day I went for deep tissue massaging on  my upper shoulder area and I could feel a little soreness the next day. So it really works for deep tissue massage.

There are arm straps used to adjust the intensity of pressure. Pull with your arms to get a deeper tissue massage. It isn’t strenuous on your arms and alternatively you can also lean back in a chair against the massager.

Control Buttons

IMPORTANT: you must hold the power button about three seconds to turn it on. If you just press and release, it won’t turn on/off. Simple but important detail.

The other buttons are for heat and rotation speed.

Automatic Turn Off

For safety reasons, I want any electronic item to have an auto shutoff feature. The Shiatsu Massager automatically turns off after 15 minutes of use. I believe the reasoning is twofold: to prevent you from too must muscle manipulation and from putting too much wear and tear on the massager.

Automatic Rotation Change

The massaging knobs change the direction of rotation every minute. This is really good because it hits your muscles slightly different based on the rotation direction.

Cordless

The Shiatsu Massager comes in either the cordless or wired models. I chose the cordless model because I wanted to be able to use it even where an electrical outlet is not accessible. Also, because it’s cordless I can use it on long car rides. (FYI, it is not recommended to use while you are driving.)

The cordless model must be charged, similar to charging a cellphone. It took a good 1 1/2 hours to fully charge the unit. I didn’t time exactly how long it held the charge, but I’d guess it was at least for two hours of use.

Carrying Case

This may seem insignificant but because I intend to travel with the massager, it’s important to me. Plus, having a protective storage case is just good sense as it protects the massager. It’s compact and has handles that make it easy to carry.

Durability

The massager is mostly made out of a vinyl. Some of the product reviews indicated it looks dingy. Everyone has their opinion, but I think it looks just fine. The important thing is that it is extremely durable.

Check out my video in which I give a brief demonstration of the back massager.

Sharing is Caring

To get more than just my opinion, I had several friends and colleagues tryout my new Shiatsu Back Neck and Shoulder Massager. It took less than a minute for almost every person to close their eyes and say “ahhh this is amazing!”

Most people suspected it was very expensive and out of their budget. However, quite the contrary as the massager is extremely affordable – well under $50! That’s way less than the cost of a one-hour massage.

Shiatsu Neck & Back Massager Review: Final Thoughts

My only disappointment is that I didn’t discover this massager sooner. I’ve spent plenty of money on massages and chiropractor appointments that I believe this massager could have prevented.

Of course I will still get occasional massages because they are a self-care activity that really helps me relax and feel better. However, the Shiatsu Massager is ideal for daily use at home or in the office.

When reviewing a product, I like to include the cons. In this case, I don’t have any major cons. The two considerations I can think of are:

  1. Some people don’t like the looks of the tan color. So if you want your massager to make a fashion statement, decide if black vinyl/faux leather with a tan accent will look good on you in your home or office.
  2. The infrared heat does not heat up like a heating pad due to safety precautions. I’m not an expert on infrared heat, but I do know it is a safer alternative. My research also revealed that infrared heat can also help increase circulation.

Be sure to watch my video that gives an up close look at the product and at the massager in use.

One related note is that you should always be sure to drink plenty of water when you use the massager. Just as when you get a professional massage, toxins are released into your system. Drink water to flush them out.

Again, please read the seller’s detailed description of the Shiatsu Massager. If you have any questions or thoughts about the massager, leave me a comment below. If you have muscle tension or tightness, I recommend the Shiatsu Massager.

Disclaimer: I was provided a complimentary product in exchange for a fair and honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

  1. Thank you for this review! I’ve been having neck pain and headaches consistently for about six months. Chiropractic help has done very little. She said it’s all in the muscles. I think this is the next thing I need to order?

    1. Hi Joy, sorry to hear you’re having headache issues. I’ve had daily headaches in the past and I know how draining they can be.

I wholeheartedly recommend this massager. You know how I love massages, and this is the next best thing – feels awesome. Start light even though you’ll be tempted to do deep tissue massage right away.

Note that there’s an 8% off coupon on the Amazon product page. If you use the discount coupon, it’ll take a few extra days to be delivered, so you’ll have to decide if it’s worth the wait for the savings. Let me know what you think if you decide to order!

  2. Well, I watched the video and ordered the product. Should be coming soon, anxious to try it on my neck.

  3. Huh, I put a comment in and it disappeared. Anyhow, I watched the video and ordered the product off the link….hoping it will help say goodbye to my pain in the neck. 😁

    1. And now there’s two. 😀 I completely confident it’s going to feel great on your neck.

  4. That looks simple to use & your review and video are appreciated as sometimes a product can look too good to be true. I get more lower back pain but my husband carries his stress in his shoulders & upper back. Being cordless is useful too! Will be checking this gizmo out, for sure 😊

    1. Hi Linda, I only rave about products I really consider to be quality and valuable. The massager is one in think everyone should have in their home! Thanks for the comment, let me know if you get one for yourself. A few friends have ordered since reading my review, and they both love it. Take care!

    1. It works great for shoulders, but I would ask your doctor if you have injuries or are pregnant. Great question! Everyone is different, so there might be different answers for different people. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. My husband had something very similar to this when he was very ill a couple of years ago. Though I must admit it was not as portable as this one!

    1. Hope your husband is fully recovered. Being cordless is a big advantage of this particular model of massager.
