This post is purposely timed one week into the new year because statistics show that New Year’s resolutions are already starting to fail.
In theory, New Year’s resolutions are great. You think about a bad habit you want to change in the upcoming year, decide on a good habit as a replacement, and you do it. It’s that doing it part that, more often than not, doesn’t work out.
Why do resolutions tend to fail? According to an article in FSUNews.com:
Causes of failure include not being specific enough, setting unreasonable goals and expectations, no accountability, and negative framing.
.
Life happens… and resolutions lose steam and go by the wayside.

But Wait… There’s a Solution That’ll Keep You Moving!
I gave up resolutions and now set intentions because intentions work better at helping me achieve whatever I want – or more!
An intention is a proactive statement that empowers, supports and inspires you to take action.
Intentions are practical and doable, yet are all about the process, not the results.
That being said, you’ll definitely get results… they just might be different than you imagined. And, there’s a good chance the results will be even better than your human mind can imagine!
Intentions are also self-focused, meaning they empower you to take full responsibility for your life. An intention is all about YOU – everything is in your control. There’s no room to blame others because the intention is focused on you, nobody else.
Intention practiced properly is sure to get you progress on your life desires.
Energy Follows Intention

Intentions allow for more than your human mind may imagine. Let me explain this a bit further.
You probably have heard, “Energy flows where attention goes.” When you set an intention, energy will naturally follow and help you manifest that intention.
For this reason, it’s important to stay unattached to the outcome because our human “wiring” may not even envision the possibilities.
The energy that will follow your intention is more powerful than your best imagined goal.

Stay open to the path on how you get to your desired goal and to the exact goal itself.
Here’s one way and unexpected idea might show up…
There’s nothing better than when an idea pops into my head and I think “HELL YES-I want that!” Everything within me knows it’s a great idea. My gut instinct guides my decision and I follow my impulse to go with it.
That’s the joy of staying open to possibilities that the universe can feed you with the most surprising, random timing. (Universe is term that you can replace with God/source/inner-self, whatever suits your beliefs.)

Being Ready & Willing is Required
As powerful as an intention can be in making a change and achieving your goals, you must be READY and WILLING.
Lots of people would love to lose 10 pounds or double their income. There’s no fooling the universe. You must truly be ready to commit, and willing to take inspired action.
If you’re stuck and can’t get yourself to take action, I invite you to grab my mini-course. You’ll start to understand what’s holding you back, and how you can get some momentum going:
Creating an Intention
In my next post, I am going to tell you exactly how to create an intention statement along with supporting goals. <UPDATE> Link below.
As a Certified Fearless Living Coach, I am trained on the Fearless Living method of setting an intention to maximize its benefit. It’s made a big positive shift in my life, and I’m excited to share it with you.
There are three things you can do NOW to prepare for learning how to write an intention statement in the next post:
- Create a gratitude list to help you recognize and appreciate the positive aspects that are already in your life.
- Think about what you want to invite into your life, how you want to show up for yourself and others, and where you want to be in one year (assume no obstacles).
- I’ll also talk about the power of an accountability buddy. Start thinking about a person in your life who supports and encourages you, that special someone who you can ask to help you stay accountable. Accountability is important!
